Repeal Redundant Ordinance on Recycling - YES

In 1977, the Town Council passed an ordinance that stated that every beverage container sold through a vendor must have a minimum refund value of ten cents or more. In the years since the California legislature has passed numerous laws to encourage recycling and reduce waste, and state law now regulates refund values, redemption payments, deposits, and similar fees for beverage containers. Town staff “re-discovered” the now-redundant 1977 ordinance while working on a different issue, and brought it to the Council’s attention. I was happy to vote yes on repealing this obsolete ordinance—after all, who doesn’t like a slimmer municipal code?
