Raise Town Council Stipend - YES

I voted in favor of a proposal to increase the monthly salary for members of the Town Council from $300 to $950. The increase is meant to compensate Councilmembers for their work fairly and to help attract a more diverse group of people to serve on the Council. The Councilmember stipend in Corte Madera hadn't increased since 2001, but in 2023, a new state law raised the salary limit for council members in small cities like Corte Madera to $950 per month. This new law allows the town to adjust the salary to reflect inflation and to support the workload of Councilmembers, while making public service possible even for those who otherwise couldn't afford to take hours and hours a week away from their day jobs and family.
