Create Climate Action Coordinator Position - YES

This is an absolutely monumental accomplishment for Corte Madera: the creation of a dedicated, management-level position to oversee our response to the only existential threat our Town faces, climate change.

Once filled, this individual will oversee a portfolio of important tasks, such as implementing the Climate Adaptation Assessment, our road map to protecting Corte Madera from flooding and wildfire; implementing the Climate Action Plan, which guides Corte Madera to reducing our carbon footprint; staffing the Climate Action Committee, which recommends actions to the Town Council to advance these priorities; and coordinating Corte Madera's climate efforts with those of our neighboring communities.

It's critical to note that, while much of this work is new and long overdue, some of this load is already being borne by staff members across a number of other departments. By hiring a dedicated professional for this role, we free up other staff members to focus more on other matters.

As we work to devise and implement a credible response to climate change, the creation and filling of this role represents one of the last pieces of the puzzle falling into place. Today's vote represents the achievement of a goal I've been working on for years, and I couldn't be more proud of our Town for taking this momentous step forward!

The total compensation for this position, including salary and all benefits, will range from $109,000 to $130,000.
