Transportation

Alleviating traffic and developing alternatives

  • Work with local municipalities and CalTrans to construct the 101-580 flyover

  • Invest in road quality and logistical changes at the most critical chokepoints

  • Support the SMART Train as a non-car means of transit throughout Marin County

  • Integrate the SMART Train into the local economy

  • Prioritize the maintenance and expansion of our pedestrian and bike paths

  • Synchronize bus, shuttle, train, and ferry schedules for easy transfers and more useful service

Road traffic
  • Work with local municipalities and CalTrans to construct the 101-580 flyover. Much of our local gridlock stems from the excessive traffic on 101, as commuters travel between the Richmond Bridge and San Francisco via Corte Madera. We urgently need a high-volume connection between 101/580 that can accommodate those commuters to keep 101 and our local streets flowing smoothly.

  • Invest in road quality and logistical changes at the most critical chokepoints. Pockmarked roads and outdated street planning slow down local traffic, and can cause collisions and backups. We need to invest in roadwork and logistical updates, prioritizing the streets and intersections with the greatest delays and traffic volumes.

SMART Train

  • Support the SMART Train as a non-car means of transit throughout Marin County and local economic driver. The SMART Train has the potential to alleviate local traffic by getting travelers and shoppers off the roads, and can help commuters reach secondary modes of transit, such as the ferry.

  • Integrate the SMART Train into the local economy. The SMART Train has the potential to provide an easy way for shoppers and customers to reach Corte Madera’s commercial districts, bringing income to local businesses while reducing road traffic. We can enhance this benefit by providing easy connections to secondary modes of transit.

Pedestrian and bike paths
  • Prioritize the maintenance and expansion of our pedestrian and bike paths. Corte Madera’s paths one of our town’s great strengths, enhancing pubic health and enjoyment of our beautiful surroundings while reducing traffic. We must build on this strength by developing with an eye to expanding the pedestrian/bike path network.

Buses, ferries, and shuttles
  • Synchronize bus, shuttle, train, and ferry schedules for easy transfers and more useful service. Corte Madera already has some public transit options, but a lack of coordination in the schedules makes local public transit inconvenient. We should make it easier for Corte Maderans to reach secondary modes of transit (like the ferry or SMART Train) or major destinations (like our open spaces and commercial centers), as well as senior shuttle services like Whistlestop.
