Sanitary District No. 2

Keeping our town clean and healthy

  • We must protect the often invisible services that keep our town running smoothly

  • Work with the Central Marin Sanitation Agency to replace outdated or inadequate infrastructure

  • Support CMSA in preventing rainwater infiltration of the sewers

  • Upgrade infrastructure to eliminate the risk of sewage leaks into the environment

Insolvency is not an option
  • We must protect the often invisible services that keep our town running smoothly. Under normal circumstances, the sewer system is all but invisible to most of us, and can be easy to take for granted. Our community should recognize the critical role that Sanitary District No. 2 plays in our lives and our town, and invest accordingly to make sure the District always has adequate funds to carry out its vital functions.

Invest in reliable systems
  • Work with the Central Marin Sanitation Agency to replace outdated or inadequate infrastructure. Half of our sewer system is more than 40 years old. Outdated sanitary infrastructure like ours results in sewage backups, and threatens to cause service outages during times of emergency. We must fix this liability by working with the CMSA to bring our sewer system up to date at a pace that is fiscally sustainable.

Prioritize public health
  • Support CMSA in preventing rainwater infiltration of the sewers. Under inclement conditions, our sewer system can be inundated with groundwater, further taxing our already aging infrastructure. We must support the Centra Marin Sanitation Agency in its goal to reduce this groundwater infiltration, freeing up sewer capacity to handle actual sewage.

  • Upgrade infrastructure to eliminate the risk of sewage leaks into the environment. Raw sewage is a major environmental contaminant and can make people and animals dangerously ill. In addition to being insufficiently reliable, our aging sanitary infrastructure poses an unacceptable risk of leakage, and must be updated with urgency.
