Model Community Vision

What does it mean to be a small town in the 21st century?

  • Place Corte Madera on the front lines of civic innovation

  • As the pace of technological change increases, we must all work together to keep our community abreast of the times

  • Prioritize efforts to do more with less

  • Take a critical and strategic eye to development

  • Work to be a model of and advocate for fairer communities

  • React to the very real threat that climate change poses to our town

Ingenuity
  • Place Corte Madera on the front lines of civic innovation. The world is a rapidly changing place, and we must meet those changes by constantly reevaluating civic systems like social programs and zoning laws. By embracing innovation, our town can show the world how to maintain a close-knit community in an era marked by surging populations, digital everything, and changing climates.

  • As the pace of technological change increases, we must all work together to keep our community abreast of the times. Self-driving cars, abundant drones, and everyday objects with internet connections: these are but a few of the disruptive technologies we are already seeing, the likes of which will become increasingly prevalent. Each presents both challenges and opportunities for our town, and we must come together as a community to make the best of such changes.

Efficiency
  • Prioritize efforts to do more with less. In every aspect of government and civic life, efficiency is key. Going forward, our town can be a leader in reducing costs to taxpayers and burdens on public infrastructure and the environment by looking for responsbile ways to consolidate systems and services for the benefit of all.

  • Take a critical and strategic eye to development. A smart development strategy can boost the local economy, reduce our environmental footprint, minimize future flooding liability, and create a more connected and involved community, all while preserving land and requiring less new infrastructure.

Proactivity
  • React to the very real threat that climate change poses to our town. As a coastal community, climate change will have an outsize impact on our town. We can't solve this problem alone, but we must work to incorporate environmental responsibility into every aspect of our community, and play a larger role in helping other communities meet their responsibilities as inhabitants of the planet we all share.

  • Work to be a model of and advocate for fairer communities. We live in an era of rising inequality, a situation that is incompatible with Corte Madera's values. By embracing fairness and equality, our community can become a local exemplar of the broader change we all wish to see. Let's make Corte Madera a town where everyone has a fair chance at happiness and involvement with the rest of the community, regardless of income or age.

I want to hear from you!
