Aging in Corte Madera

Making Corte Madera the best place to enjoy life's wisest years

  • Create a community that older residents are eager to be a part of

  • Work with Age Friendly Corte Madera to ensure senior residents can enjoy their town to the fullest

  • Help provide seniors with everything they need to stay independent

  • Coordinate volunteer efforts to crowdsource seniors' services

  • Support community organizations in providing educational programs for seniors

Enhance quality of life for all residents—regardless of age
  • Create a community that older residents are eager to be a part of. They say a rising tide lifts all boats; by focusing on improving the health and vibrancy of our community as a whole, we can ensure that Corte Madera remains a place our senior citizens are proud to call home, and a place where they feel engaged and valued.

Build an ever-more accessible community
  • Work with Age Friendly Corte Madera to ensure senior residents can enjoy their town to the fullest. The volunteers of Age Friendly Corte Madera have done incredible work in getting Corte Madera accredited by the World Health Organization as an Age Friendly City, and we must continue to support their mission.

Support services that allow seniors to age in place
  • Help provide seniors with everything they need to stay independent. Nobody should be trapped indoors due to age or forced out of their home by disability. We should support shuttle services like Whistlestop and meal/grocery services like Meals on Wheels, which allow older residents to retain their quality of life and independence.

  • Coordinate volunteer efforts to crowdsource seniors' services. There are ample low-cost ways for the Town to help seniors, including by playing an organizational and support role in marshaling volunteer efforts to give seniors rides or deliver them food.

Provide lifelong learning opportunities

  • Support community organizations in providing educational programs for seniors. One can never be too old to learn, and for many seniors, continuing education provides a refreshing dose of intellectual stimulation. It's important that our town continue to be a place where residents of all ages can learn and grow.

Case Study: Teaching by Turns

Strong communities are built by bringing together people of different experiences and perspectives. The Teaching by Turns program enables that process by bringing together older and younger members of our community, allowing each to take turns being the teacher and the student. It's a community-building program with the potential to help citizens of all ages learn the lessons of an era they may not fully understand.
